Let Your Dreams Soar!

Few days ago, I went to cinema for "High School Musical3". Apart from the beautiful choreography, what touches my heart is the part when Troy struggling in deciding his path.

Playing basketball in University of Albuquerque, is not only his dream since childhood, but also his father's dream and his best pal Chad's wish. However, when he was given an opportunity to win the scholarship offered by a famous dancing school, Julliard, and got involved to stage a spring musical, he found his passion for theatre that lies within his heart. After an inner struggle between his father's dream and his own choice, he finally decided to go to the University of California where he can play basketball, study theatre and be close to his lover, Garbriella.

I can't help but keep thinking if I'm on the right track now. I thought of the poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost, one of my favourites since high school. "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both, And be one traveler, long I stood, And looked down one as far as I could..."

Unlike Robert Frost, I always took the road most people travelled, because I felt more secured. I was never firm in deciding the road to take, like got into Form 6 because that's the safest option; took Biomedical Sciences in UPM because I studied Biology and that's the best option offered. And I always thought that I was forced to get into sales line because I have no choice due to family financial crisis. But deep inside, I always felt that I shall be doing something that I'm passionate with as my carreer, not just doing a job.

The problem is, there is so many things that I'm fond of. Singing, dancing, playing musical instruments, public speaking, debating, writing; anything about music, science, politics, etc... But I'm never an expert in any. So which one shall I choose?

I then remembered one of the points shared by Brian Tracy during his seminar, one of the qualities of self-made millionaires is to do what you love to do. If you do not know what you love to do, like me, according to him, try to figure out what did you love doing during the age between 7 to 14 years old, that is what you love to do!

Those things that you love to do, is those that you have natural talents in it. He quoted from Michael Jordan that "Everybody has talents, but ability needs hard work."

So I begin to think back what I enjoyed doing when I was 7 to 14, and I got the answer. Now, with the destination in my mind, I'm no longer a boat without a sail, and I believe, together with the focused effort and determination plus the rest of the recipe of success, someday my dream will come true.

I've found mine, have you found yours?
